Two Jeff Hails Jigs
|
|
By Jeff Hails - Above is a picture of my latest jig.
I never had an adjust-o-jig, but wanted to do something similar. The material
for the base is a synthetic granite that is used for science lab desk tops
and window sills in school construction. I slotted the sides to allow
adjustment of axle position and the socket heads screws adjust axle height.
It looks a bit Rube Goldberg, but I wanted to build it from materials I had
on-hand. I built it specifically for 1/32 scale but have enough stock to
build more for 1/24 jigs. I just have to find the motivation to get to it.

Above: This is my old jig, that I've worked from over the past 20 years or so.
It was sold in the late 70's/early 80's through Black Max (an associated enterprise of
Grand Prix Raceway in Cincinnati). Basically just a slate block with the guide flag
block recessed into the surface. It has been good, but I fried it doing hard soldering
of the major joints.
