Highlights from Jack Beers' Slot Car Collection:
#8 Lotus 30
Jack writes:
"This is another of the cars I built around 1965.
Motor is a Tyco sidewinder with a Pittman 65 6v armature.
All ball bearing. This is another one with wide body mounts,
to accommodate JK's Lotus 30 body. The motor mount was a
production item (I can't remember who made it).
The construction is similar to other cars of
mine - the main rails are 3/32 inch brass, and the rest was pin tubing."
"If you look closely at the axle tube, you can see a discoloration where
something was soldered onto it. The 'something' was a little sharpened piece of tubing.
The drill was to get a piece of felt and jam it onto the sharp tubing
so that the felt would gently rub on the commutator, when the car was running.
Then you soaked the felt with motor spray. I don't know if it really
helped or not, but the fast guys were doing it, soooo...."
"This chassis and body are both by Jack Beers. This car won quite a few races. This
is another one I totally disassembled for restoration."
