Doug Azary: The Batmobile!
You may have seen this Batmobile at a recent online auction - we get to peek underneath!
Doug Azary sends pictures of the beautiful scratchbuilt brass rod chassis that
he built to carry his hand-painted Batmobile body.
The auction listing said, in part:
"The Batmobile body is made from the original Lancer tooling. It features very time-consuming
hand painted red striping. The only decals on the car are the 2 bat logos on the doors, but even
those were hand cut from red vinyl tape. The stacks up on the deck lid and the rear jet nozzle are silver.
Even the rear license plate was hand painted."
"The chassis was scratchbuilt and silver soldered by hand. EVERY part on this car,
with the exception of 4 screws, the brass used to build the chassis, the 2 motor wires,
the body and the paint, is 30+ years old. Even the Cox 36D motor was hand rewound,
epoxied and balanced. Motor runs strong."
